Collection of Information
Santillana collects personal information from users, including students, in order to allow them access to digital content that is part of Santillana’s digital educational products. The information collected includes, but may not be limited to, names, email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers. Some of this information may be required, while some of it may only be requested. Sensitive information, such as a social security number, is never required or requested.
We collect the following information from children under the age of 13:
- Display name (this is the name other people will see when the child posts items to one of our sites or engages in other similar activities on our sites).
Use and Storage of Information
Santillana does not use the personal information gathered for any purpose other than to allow users access to the materials they need. Santillana acknowledges that you have the right to access your personal information. Santillana integrates with schools’ systems and collects information under the direction of its Administrator or School, and has no direct relationship with the individuals whose personal data it processes. If you are a customer of one of our Clients and would no longer like to be contacted by one of our Clients that use our service, please contact the Client that you interact with directly. We may transfer personal information to companies that help us provide our service. Transfers to subsequent third parties are covered by the service agreements with our Clients.

Parents and legal guardians of children under 13 have certain rights under COPPA, and Santillana recognizes those rights. Parents/guardians can consent to collection and use of a child's personally identifiable information (PII) without consenting to the disclosure of information to third parties. Currently the only identifiable information we collect from children under 13 is username, date of birth [not required] and display name (this is the name other people will see when the Child posts items to one of our Sites or engage in other similar activities on our Sites).
Parents may at their discretion elect to review or delete their children’s personal information from the system by following this procedure:
- Parents must contact the school administrator. He or she will allow the parent access to the information, and the administrator will delete the children’s information, whatever the parents’ request might be.
- If they so choose, the school administrator may also formally request that Santillana assists in the procedures of deleting children’s information. School administrators can write to email@example.com.
A child's participation or access to an activity on Santillana cannot be conditioned on him or her providing more information than is reasonably necessary for that activity, or any personally identifiable information. Santillana does not collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 without the school’s consent.
Access to Information
Santillana acknowledges that you have the right to access your personal information. Santillana has no direct relationship with the individuals whose personal data it processes. An individual who seeks access, or who seeks to correct, amend, or delete inaccurate data should direct his query to Santillana’s Client (the school administrator) by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If requested to remove data, we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
We will retain users’ information (purchasers, administrators, students) for as long as the account is active or as needed to provide our services. We will retain and use users’ information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
